I write books for children and teens. Even though I'm not as confident in it, I also love experimenting with poetry and short pieces. My poems are mostly free verse.
When I was young, I inhaled books, even sneaking them under my covers to read when I was supposed to be sleeping! While I also enjoyed creative writing and often made up stories in my head, I didn't think of myself as a writer, so I didn't try to write seriously until I was an adult with children of my own.
A writer never stops learning how to write better, so I'm an active part of the writing community. I'm a member of SCBWI (The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators), including the New England regional chapter. I also attend workshops at The Highlights Foundation and The Writers' Loft to improve my craft.
By day, I'm a special education teacher. My focus is on English Language Arts, and it's my goal to foster a confidence and love of reading and writing. I've also taught history.
I live in the Boston area with my family. We like cooking and hanging out in our backyard with our Beagle, Milo, when the weather is nice. Luna Lovecat is my reluctant muse who refuses to sit in my lap, but she steals my seat when I stop writing.
